French upmarket campsite group Sandaya is continuing its international expansion by announcing the creation of its first European subsidiary, Sandaya Italia. Roberto Franchi, a renowned hospitality expert, has been appointed CEO of the new entity.

Sandaya Italia was launched following the recent acquisition of four campsites in Veneto and Tuscany, marking an important step in Sandaya’s international development strategy. With this acquisition, announced on 4 June, the group is strengthening its presence in Europe’s second-largest outdoor accommodation market, which is expanding rapidly and moving upmarket.

Roberto Franchi, a graduate in Law and Political Science from the University of Siena, will head Sandaya Italia. With a distinguished career in the hospitality sector, having held general management positions at AC Hotels Italia, Ata Hotels and Una Hotels, Franchi will bring his expertise to integrate and develop these new acquisitions. He will also aim to optimise synergies between operations in France and Italy, while seeking new opportunities for external growth.

Since 2013, Sandaya has demonstrated its commitment to growth in Europe with strategic acquisitions in Spain (Cypsela Resort 5* on the Costa Brava, Spain’s first Green Key campsite, and Valencia 4* in Puçol) and Belgium (Parc La Clusure 4* in the Belgian Ardennes). In France, the group will be adding 14 new destinations for the 2024 season. Sandaya now offers 65 top-of-the-range destinations.

The new sites acquired in Italy include the 5* Europa Camping Village at Cavallino Treporti in the Veneto region, and three campsites in Tuscany: International Camping Etruria at Marina di Castagneto, Pianacce Camping Village at Castagneto di Carducci, and Toscana Bella Camping Village at Vada. Together, these sites represent sales of €27.5 million.
