Ennismore, a fast-growing lifestyle hotel brand, and Kasada, a real estate private equity platform specialising in Africa, have signed an agreement to open their first Hyde hotel on the African continent. The opening of Hyde Johannesburg represents a major milestone for both partners.
Located in the heart of Johannesburg’s Rosebank district, the Hyde Johannesburg offers 131 rooms, including 31 suites, as well as various facilities such as a gym. The hotel will undergo a minor refurbishment to give it a more bohemian feel, in keeping with the Hyde brand identity. The transformation includes the creation of a new mural, art and music spaces on the ground floor, as well as new art installations throughout the hotel, encouraging local artistic expression.
The multi-purpose building that houses Hyde Johannesburg also includes Proud Mary, a renowned restaurant, lobby lounge, meeting rooms, as well as 7,400 m² of fully leased coworking, office and retail space. The hotel will reflect the free and festive spirit of the brand.
Rosebank, a cosmopolitan area in the north of Johannesburg, is known for its shopping malls, vibrant arts and culture scene and bustling business district. The hotel is located close to Rosebank Gautrain station and the building won the 2022 International Property Award for Best Mixed Use Development, recognising the quality of its architectural design.
Hyde Hotels is already present in Miami, Dubai, Ibiza and Bodrum, with continued growth and planned openings in London, Perth and Queenstown. This investment strengthens Kasada’s presence in South Africa, where it has already made three investments in Cape Town, including the Cape Grace by Fairmont in 2022, the Pullman Cape Town in 2023, and the development of a Mama Shelter in collaboration with Ennismore. Kasada’s portfolio now includes 20 hotels in operation or under construction across seven African countries.
“Hyde Hotels have a sense of mystery and freedom, with that feeling that anything can happen, and we are incredibly excited to bring this unique lifestyle hospitality experience to Johannesburg. We are proud to be once again partnering with Kasada to bring an Ennismore brand to Africa for the first time and to open in a new global destination, further expanding the reach of our network.” – Louis Abi Abboud, Chief Development Officer and Deputy Head of IMEAT at Ennismore
“We’re thrilled about bringing Kasada’s expertise as the leading hospitality investor and owner on the continent to one of the best lifestyle hotels in Africa. As a committed and responsible investor in South Africa, we see this investment as a key opportunity to further our dedication to supporting economic and socio-economic growth through the tourism and hospitality sectors. We look forward to working closely with Ennismore to make Hyde Johannesburg the best lifestyle hotel destination not only for Johannesburg but also for the African continent.” – Olivier Granet and David Damiba, Managing Partners and co-CEOs of Kasada
