Whitbread PLC, the parent company of Premier Inn, has recently opened a new hotel in London, located at Paddington Station. The new property brings together two of Whitbread’s most popular budget hotel brands in one building, just metres from the Elizabeth Line platforms and Paddington station.

The hotel, which comprises 369 rooms under the Premier Inn and hub by Premier Inn brands, is one of the chain’s largest in London. The opening marks the completion of Whitbread’s network plan for the Paddington area, where the company has invested heavily in recent years. With this new hotel, guests can now choose from over 1,000 rooms available in four different hotels in the area, collectively employing over 200 staff.

“We saw the potential of the Paddington area to be transformed by the opening of the Elizabeth Line and the wider investment that was happening in this area.  We seized on the opportunity to expand our network in the catchment and since spring 2022 we have opened more than 1,000 new guest bedrooms across four new large and easily accessible hotels.

Our latest opening at Paddington Station is one of the most connected hotels in the country, being less than one hundred metres from Paddington Station and the Elizabeth Line, and by bringing two of our market leading hotel brands together into one building we have demonstrated once again how flexible we can be for the right location.” – Jonathan Langdon, Senior Acquisition Manager for Central London

The Paddington hotel has been converted from a former office building to create a modern hotel space. Spread over five floors, the hotel offers Premier Inn rooms above the reception and dining areas, while the compact hub by Premier Inn rooms are on level -1, with advanced lighting technology mimicking natural light.

Whitbread has also recruited 80 new employees to the hotel, using Job Centre Plus to promote these opportunities to local residents. Prior to the opening, the company worked with ActionFunder to support local projects and offer volunteering time. Team members voted to support four charities from a shortlist of eight, and provided almost 80 hours of paid volunteering to improve a community centre in north Paddington.

“We are delighted to be working with Whitbread on their latest, innovative hotel opening in Paddington, West London. The management team and employees have jumped at the opportunity to deliver hyper-local social impact through the ActionFunder platform. In fact, all the 80 employees were involved in a vote which saw projects selected for funding and volunteering. It’s a great example of a business bringing benefits to the local community. We wish the hotel all the best following it’s opening.” – Mark Shearer, Co-Founder of ActionFunder

The Premier Inn at Paddington Station was opened in the presence of Mark Shearer, representatives from the development team, Premier Inn’s operational management team and local stakeholders.

With this new hotel, Whitbread now operates nine Premier Inn and hub by Premier Inn properties in the City of Westminster, offering almost 2,000 rooms in central London. The Premier Inn at Paddington Station also offers 60 Premier Plus rooms for an enhanced experience.
