I have been to Japan twice and I am smitten! I have been to Tokyo, Kyoto and Yokosuka, which is part of Greater Tokyo. I usually write about my impressions about what women wear in any country I visit. And I post a lot of pictures of what I saw. Here are my impressions of what women are wearing in Japan!

Japanese women dress elegantly. Dresses are common and they have a subtle style. People in Japan are lean and yet I do not see the craze for crop tops or sports bras in public at all!

I saw so many girls and women in nice dresses going about there day. I took this picture at the Shinjuku Gyoen. In Japan women wearing a dress in their daily stroll is quite common.

On the other hand short skirts are also common in Japan, I could see people wearing then all around but somehow they don’t team it up with crop tops! I thought it could be weather but even on the days that were warm, still no crop tops.

I took this picture in Akihabara, which leads me to the costume play culture in Japan. Costume play in Japan is at the next level. So many people dress up like a character in a movie or anime!

When my daughter and I went to Disneyland, so many adults were dressed like their favorite movie character! I am told it is quite expensive to get dressed like this!

A lot of people dress chilled too! jeans, t-shirts and all. But Japanese people do not go around in gym wear in their daily life!

Lot of Japanese women and tourists wear a kimono, particularly for photo shoots. If you wish to get dressed in a Kimono, you can hire it along with a photographer. It comes out to be expensive but if you wish there is no cultural taboo about it. Japanese people are accepting of tourists wearing a kimono.

One day my sister Alka and I wore saree in Yokosuka. We had a gala time! And the locals who could speak English talked to us, giving us compliments. So, if you wish to wear your traditional dress, people are quite accepting of that too.

I leave you with this picture of people in Yoyogi Park enjoying the Cherry Blossoms on a Sunday. You can get an idea of how well dressed people are on a Sunday at the park!

I loved to see the elegance of Japanese women and their attire. I don’t know why but it is fantastic to see people being chic in their own way!
