THE EXPERTS AT TRAVEL BEYOND

The Cape Winelands is known for its breathtaking scenery, exceptional wines, and some of the best dining in South Africa. Restaurants here take full advantage of their surroundings, offering fresh, seasonal cuisine in settings that are as beautiful as they are serene. To help you make the most of your time in the region, we asked our Consultants to share their favorite spots to sit back, enjoy a glass of wine, and savor a truly memorable meal.

Arkeste

Craig Beal, Owner

Arkeste offers a relaxing and refined dining experience. The setting, in a heritage building surrounded by nature, makes for a peaceful atmosphere. Chef Richard Carstens has a knack for combining his signature classics with new dishes that make the most of local, seasonal ingredients. The wine list is well-chosen, with great options from Chamonix and other selections from across the Cape region.

Protégé

Rose Loggi, Consultant

Protégé features up and coming chefs who are training to eventually move on to La Colombe, so it’s a great way to experience their talent early. The evening includes a multi-course meal with wine pairings, and each dish is presented by the chef who created it which is a personal touch that really adds to the experience. Every course is unique, and the food overall is excellent.

Delaire Graff Restaurant

Kayla Hoyles, Product Manager, Polar Regions

Delaire Graff Restaurant strikes the perfect balance with exceptional food, incredible views, and a standout wine list. The setting is stunning, whether you’re dining inside surrounded by South African art or outside with views over the vineyards. The menu is thoughtful and elegant, with dishes that are beautifully presented and full of flavor. The wine pairings are always spot on, and the whole experience feels high-quality.

Babel at Babylonstoren

Dianna Upton, Product Manager, Southeast Asia

Food at Babel.

The food at Babel is consistently vibrant, fresh, and full of flavor. I am always blown away by dining here. Everything not only tastes delicious, but it also feels super healthy and organic. Here, you can enjoy dining with zero guilt, no matter how indulgent you are!

Reuben’s Franschhoek

Jenny Falls, Consultant

Dish at Reuben's.

Reuben’s is a true gem. It’s relaxed and welcoming, yet the food is exceptional with simple, high-quality dishes that always hit the mark. Chef Reuben’s approach lets the ingredients speak for themselves. The wine list is also fantastic, making it the perfect place for both food and wine lovers to enjoy a great meal.

La Petite Colombe

Nicole Foels, Consultant

Set in the stunning Leeu Estates, the experience here is nothing short of exceptional. The food is sophisticated, with a nod to French classics and global flavors, and the service is always top-notch. La Petite Colombe is always always a memorable culinary experience.

Protégé

Megan Huntoon, Product Manager, Africa

A place so nice, we had to name it twice! Protégé is such a fun spot. It’s relaxed and welcoming, but the food is incredibly thoughtful and full of flavor. The menu feels fresh and seasonal, and there’s a real attention to detail without it ever feeling too formal. It’s a great example of casual fine dining done right.
