Just back from Kish Island. I’m here in Dubai overnight, waiting for the flight home. Spending the night in the airport seems just toooo tiring for words, even when that airport is DXB, so I find a hotel/social hub in downtown Dubai.
Here’s how I killed a few hours today, and you can too, if you find yourself in Dubai overnight, and, you know, feel like it. You’re welcome.
Creative place…
Ain’t that the truth…
And this clock …
Turns out, Dubai Mall is a 5-minute walk away.
Might as well get a little Christmas shopping in.
A mall is not just a mall in Dubai. It’s a museum, an ice rink, a ski slope, an aquarium, a joy ride, an Italian piazza, an ancient Egyptian temple, a walk through the world of Ibn Battuta, a waterfall…
It’s so much more than a bag…
Work and lunch at TWG Tea Salon, because all the colours – and there’s that fake waterfall just out the window.
Walking back to the hotel afterwards, I spot the name Emaar on a building. Then another. And another. Emaar on practically every building. Who is this Emaar? A search turns up one of the largest property firms in the Middle East, and in the world!
I turn around to look at Dubai Mall, and what do you know…
Even my hotel…
Wonder how many of these buildings are owned by Emaar…
…probably all of them. (Loving the nighttime cityscape, though.)
Even the world’s tallest building…
Burj Khalifa – by Emaar
World at a Glance is a series of short articles here on Sophie’s World, with a single photo (I really should stop writing that), portraying curious, evocative, happy, sad or wondrous, unexpected little encounters. Curious seems to be the relevant one here, I think. And evocative – weirdly so.
